The Old Guard, A Rival Party For Mythic Prehistory
Here's an example party of rival adventurers from my Tales of Mythic Prehistory setting.
Ancient heroes cursed with immortality for defying the spirits, the Old Guard wander the world seeking atonement for their crimes. Despite being wretched shadows of their former selves, they are formidable opponents, having survived centuries of violence.
Alliance: If treated with respect, they will act as mentors, training heroes in forgotten methods of warfare.
Quest: Drink from the Pool of a Thousand Enlightenments, hoping it will release them from their curses.
Meshigam, Ancient of Days (Forest's Son): A great leader, Meshigam has grown harsh and uncaring in the many years since he taught his people how to walk on two legs. He towers over modern men and wields a massive warbow carved from the first tree felled by human-shaped stone.
Taro, Who Stole The Serpent’s Venom (Brewer): Once a cunning thief, Taro’s greatest feat came with endless torment as the venom found a new home in his veins. He mastered alchemy in an attempt to numb the pain, and discovered several brews that civilization uses to this day.
Mer Meridath, The Despised (Unicorn Slayer): Mer Meridath was the young huntress who slayed the unicorn, and she was rendered an old crone as punishment. In the centuries since her sin, she has mastered witchcraft, becoming one of the few humans capable of sorcery under their own power.
